Catholic Schools Week 2024
January 28, 2024 - February 3, 2024
Theme:
“Catholic Schools: Faith, Excellence, Service.”
The 2023-24 school year marks the 50th anniversary of this special recognition for our schools. "Catholic schools have a specific purpose to form students to be good citizens of the world, love God and neighbor and enrich society with the leaven of the gospel and by example of faith.
As communities of faith, Catholic schools instill in students their destiny to become saints. Academic excellence is the hallmark of Catholic education intentionally directed to the growth of the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Finally, service is fundamental to Catholic education and the core of Catholic discipleship. Service is intended to help form people who are not only witnesses to Catholic social teaching, but also active participants through social learning.
The CSW logo emphasizes that the Catholic school, like the Catholic Church, is not a building or an institution, but it is the people. As the people of God, we work together to bring the Kingdom of God to Earth and raise up the next generation to do the same. The image of teachers and students forming the foundation of the school shows that they are active people of faith who serve others and God. May we all strive to live in active service of Jesus and his mission as we nationally join together during Catholic Schools Week and always." (ncea.org)

Our Lenten Journey - 2023
Flying Around the World in 40 Days
Lent began with Ash Wednesday. During Lent we spent forty days drawing closer to God and preparing for the great celebration of Easter through:
Praying - We prayed for others in the global church. We reflected on what type of person God calls us to be, and we ask for His guidance in living up to our potential.
Fasting–We fasted, or gave things up, as a reminder to remove things in our lives that get in the way of our relationship with God. Fasting also reminded us of those who experience hunger. God calls each of us to care for those who are in need. (Fasting can be from things [like a video or game rental] or from a particular treat [like fast food or sweet] or something we enjoy [like television]. This was a personal decision.)
Almsgiving–We gave alms (charity - something given freely to help the poor) with a spirit of generosity to our brothers and sisters in need, honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbors. This Lent, through our sacrifices, we help to empower and transform the lives of individuals, families, and communities around the world. We create “A Hunger to end Hunger!"
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Catholic School students and staff participated in our eighth annual two-part Lenten Project. This two-part project incorporated helping both globally and here at home (our school).
Part I of our project helped those around the world who are in need through Catholic Relief Services Operation Rice Bowl. CRS Rice Bowl offers an experience that engages students throughout the season of Lent, help to broaden their understanding of our Catholic faith and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Throughout Lent we learned about people from the countries in which our Rice Bowl giving helps serve.
All students were asked to participate in our global project by bringing in change on Fridays each week of Lent to put in our global community rice bowl. Students were encouraged to actively participate as we learned about others around the world who we help through this activity.
Part II of our project wais helping right here at Our Lady by participating in a "labels race." Students are asked to bring in any of the labels/items listed below to earn points for their class; one point is given for each label or item the class collects. Each week points were tabulated in order to move their class across the map into position for our next Rice Bowl country "visit." It is exciting to see who took the lead each week as we progressed through Lent!
One point was given for each of the following:
Ink Cartridges Tyson A+ Project Labels Coke Product Reward Codes
Kellogg’s Rewards Our Family Labels/Receipts Box Tops for Education
Please save these labels/items throughout the year for this ongoing way to support our school.
